According to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices the R4-7A Keep Right Sign with words can be used in place of the R4-7 symbol sign in areas where the symbol may cause confusion for motorists. This sign features a vertical rectangle orientation with a 3M 3930 White High Intensity Prismatic background behind a black legend and border. As outlined by the MUTCD, the Keep Right sign should be placed at locations where motorists must pass to the right-hand side of a roadway obstruction, such as an island.
